Help with front axle leak

Well of course the day I finished the rear axle seals I look at my front driver side, lo and behold, a new leak. What has gone bad? It is leaking right where the U-joint lookin thing goes into the axle.

I am guessing from your pic that your axle is a KP D60... relatively easy to do the inner seals. Now if you had a TTB then it would be a lot more work!

If its the inner axle seal you are pretty much tearing it down all the way to the carrier without removing the knuckle. So wheel, hubs, spindle dust cover and pull the axle. This would be a good time to change the front axle joints if they have never been done. Also, that axle tube is probably full of grime which is what probably wiped out the seal. Clean it good before you put it back together. I actually went ahead and pulled the carrier out (mark everything to go back the same) to make it easier. The seal you need to change is clear up at the pumpkin and I'm not sure you could even change it without pulling the carrier. I scrubbed my housing out with a bullet shaped toilet brush. Lots of soap and water. Worked pretty good.

I guess the main point I'm trying to make is that this is not a 5 minute job.

Yeah, you have to pull the carrier.
Getting it back in is fun.
I stuck mine in ice overnight.
You can buy a case spreader though.

Check the vent first making sure it's not clogged. If the vent tube is clogged, oil can leak from just about anywhere. Does this axle have lock-out hubs? If so, do you often drive with hubs "locked"?

Yes. I sometimes forget to click the hubs over to free.
