Help identifiy this part!

Ok, in the process of chaning out my clutch and rear main seal, I found the oil pan seal to also be leaking, and very brittle. So, I removed the pan, and when cleaning it out, I found this piece of metal in the pan. Can any of you experienced folks identify this piece, and am I in trouble for it no longer being installed the engine?

ummm,We used those exact things to deburr stamped parts at a job I once had.The stamped parts would dump off the press into a Huge vibratub(Monster version of the type used to clean once fired brass for reloading) and they would bounce around polishing the parts and remove the burrs from holes and notches.

Yea what he said, I have seen these in cleaners used for engine parts, valves, rockers, should not be in your oil pan

Its either a thingamajiggey or a whatcamacallit. At any point its not part of your motor as far as I know. I have never seen it in any motors or pans. Really.. I don't have any idea what it may have gone to. I hope somebody here can help.

That sucker spend 18 years rolling around in your oil pan without damage.I would keep it and maybe have someone make it into a pendant to hang over your rear view mirror.Tell everyone what it is and where it came from when they ask.Only seems right that it spent that much time and didn't jump up and bite.

Well, that eases my curiosity for now. Well, I guess I'll just keep it and make up some story to go along with it! Thanks for the advice.

Possibly a check ball for the oil filter bypass?

Not a chance it would be a check valve ball from the bypas system but a neat guess anyway. Must have been in there since the original build.

I wouldn't be surprised if it has been there for 18 years, but it looks like someone has replaced the engine in this truck, so who knows? At this point, it sounds like I'm ok with just keeping it as a souvenier.
