They are actually not that hard. I rebuilt 2 of them. But, I did them when I was still in vo-tech and had a nice assortment of parts and a flow bench to test it on
Without access to all the special tools it would be one hell of a task

The rebuild kits are cheap because there not much more than a few seals. Theres more to reconditioning an injector pump than replacing seals.
