Gunson/Sealey not picked up by timing light

Howdy!
I’ve been trying to time my truck for six months now (7.3 idi turbo)
I have purchased two timing lights (Innovas with adjustable advance, one digital one analog) and two different pulse adapters (Sealey and Gunson) at this point and can’t get them to work.
Both adapters will give a steady blinking from their indicator light with the piezo on a very clean bare metal injector #1 line. My timing lights get power from the battery, but when attaching the coil pickup to the pulse adapter, im not getting squat. No flashing light or rpm from timing light. I connected the pickup 70 ways to Sunday, ensuring the plug arrow was correctly oriented, modulated rpm’s, changed piezo clamp placement several times, etc.

Now i have a nasty lifter tick among other things but i’d like to solve this problem before moving along since i’m almost $1k deep into timing equipment

For the record, injectors are new, IP replaced less than 10k miles ago, and im running a Holley Blue electric fuel pump regulated at 7 psi, so no fueling issues there.

what meter? model number and manufacturer will help...
are you clamping the timing lamp onto the meter hoop?

I know it’s expensive but the bluepoint adaptor just works. I haven’t found a timing light it hasn’t worked with.

You would have to buy that from the Snap-On truck guy?

I have the Ferrit timing gizmo and the Nova #xxxx (don`t remember). Pezo thingy clamps on the Injector hard line once it is cleaned off to bare metal. I have trouble with it also reading correctly. It connects the same as the Gunson from what I read.

Sounds silly but double check your timing adapter battery. When I timed my truck a couple months ago I was getting the indicator light from the adapter but nothing from the timing light. Swapped the battery and it worked perfect.

Have never heard of either of those meters. The snapon box I have has had many different lights hooked to it all worked fine.

Innova digital timing light with adjustable timing
Gunson diesel pulse adapter
Sealey TL95 pulse adapter

The gunson and sealey are identical, just wanted to rule out one being defective
And yes its on the meter hoop, i attached it every which way i can with no luck

I reached out to Gunson and the best answer i got is some timing lights arent sensitive enough to read the pulse adapter, but i see idi guys using the innova all the time online.

Didnt know if there was a more sensitive one out there or something maybe

Sounds iffy, that 2 meters are bad with 1 light...

I sent in a defective kent moore meter before bosch bought them and they repaired it...

Gotcha. Mine has an internal 9v battery in the adapter. I timed my truck with an innova light as well.
