I have a timing light from the 70's, a Craftsman. I see that some of these timing systems work with a light? I could not determine if I just need to get one of the pulse adapters? Anyone care to elaborate on the requirements for this.....

Some work using a light, like a traditional spark ignition timing light, some use a pulse detector on the injector line. Not all timing lights can be used on diesels.

One from the 70's probably won't work for our engines. The timing lights need to be adjustable from what I know.

Ok, I thought the light part was just a strobe light and the adapter had the adjustments in them. Thought I might get to us the old Craftsmen again...

I may be wrong, but I believe that the adapters basically turn the injection pulses that go through the lines in an electrical signal. I don't believe that they have any adjustments.
