I think that they are. I also think that's it's about all we have left since Ferrett no longer sells them.

I put in an order for that Tiny tach 4300 set about a month ago. Still waiting on it. I called and talked to them, seemed like they were trying to get some new "boards" ready to go. Made it seem like I should have it by now but no. They were going to call this week too but, no dice

with the tiny tach it comes with a light and mag pick up (if you want those options) however from what I have read and searched for it can be hard to find a timing light that’s stable at 2000 rpm - to go with the gunson device - when I was looking for one and I wasn’t hip on the dti price I still considering buying their timing light because they advertise their timing light is good to 8000 rpm

Some folk say the timing light method is easier than the mag pickup but I have only used the mag probe and it's pretty darn easy once you THOROUGHLY clean the probe hole above the damper.

One reason I like the DTI Tech-Time 3300 is that, based on what I've read, the founder of DTI is the same guy who invented the transducer that attaches to the injector line. These units still show up on Ebay for a decent price once in a while--supposedly new/unused one for $350 right now. Blue Point offers an adapter but it costs almost as much as the Tech-Time and you still need a timing light with advance.

The vacuum made my ears pop as I'm getting sucked deeper into all things diesel..lol
That said, isn't the transducer with adjustable timing light more accurate than a tach, or, is the tach unit used for other purposes, like calibration, and how important is that?
I do have a decent timing light with advance, but if the DTI unit is more versatile with functions that a backyard bumbler like me would actually use, then that makes it a viable option.
I'm all about using quality tools, but don't see the need to buy something that I'll probably never use.
There's only $55 cost difference between the DTI and Gunson models right now, so that's pretty close.
Being a total newb here I'm only guessing that the DTI can be used with a timing light or stand alone for rpm's?

I don't believe that any of the adapters/transducers that were sold had a tach. The timing spec is at 2000RPM. The DTI can function as a tach, but it wouldn't be practical for driving. You'll stull want a way to hold your engine at 200RPM whichever method that you go with. Personally, I'd go with the DTI for only a $55 price difference. One more thing is that DTI is made in the U.S. and I'm pretty sure that Gunson is British. Your adjustable timing light will work with a DTI unit. You'll have to use the metal wire loop behind the screen in order to use a timing light that's not specifically made for the meter.

The other thing I’d mention - DTI has good customer service - it feels like a small company (not sure if they are) but they answer the phone and when you have a technical question it’s not hard to get someone on the phone who can answer your question. That was the real selling point to me.

I also use the wireless tachs sold by DTI and they have worked great for setting/checking max RPM on chainsaws and other equipment.
