Looking for my Christmas present and eyeing the Gunson diesel timing adaptor.
Wondering if they are decent?

I agree, but if he already has a timing light that will work with a Gunson, then I see no reason to not buy one. It’s more expensive but I have had good experience with the DTI option
3300 I guess it istach 4300
I thought the Gunson will work with any timing light.I agree, but if he already has a timing light that will work with a Gunson, then I see no reason to not buy one.
I'm not sure, but I think it still has to be adjustable. A regular, cheap light for a gas engine isn't adjustable.I thought the Gunson will work with any timing light.
That said, isn't the transducer with adjustable timing light more accurate than a tach, or, is the tach unit used for other purposes, like calibration, and how important is that?
I don't believe that any of the adapters/transducers that were sold had a tach. The timing spec is at 2000RPM. The DTI can function as a tach, but it wouldn't be practical for driving. You'll stull want a way to hold your engine at 200RPM whichever method that you go with. Personally, I'd go with the DTI for only a $55 price difference. One more thing is that DTI is made in the U.S. and I'm pretty sure that Gunson is British. Your adjustable timing light will work with a DTI unit. You'll have to use the metal wire loop behind the screen in order to use a timing light that's not specifically made for the meter.Being a total newb here I'm only guessing that the DTI can be used with a timing light or stand alone for rpm's?
