Since I have had the truck, when the key is turned on, you can hear the gp controller clicking on and off and watch the voltmeter jump back and forth. I assume this is normal behaviour? Now..
I just finished getting the truck back together after taking the driver side head off to find a glow plug tip. My glow plug controller is smoking when the key is turned on, there is no more clicking, just smoke. I have temporarily pulled the black ground wire to disable it. I had it unbolted and out of the way for the previous job, but never took any of the wires off(except the ground where it hooks to the valve cover). What would cause it to smoke? I probably already toasted it, right?
If it is toast,
I was going to bypass the controller and put a switch in the cab like I have seen on here(this forum is awesome
). I figured that would be the easiest/cheapest fix. I read that the switch should be on the ground side though. I looked through the write-up for the manual switch, but it still runs through the controller(if am am seeing things right). So I can only totally bypass it by running the voltage through the switch?
Thanks,
Jared
