It's been suggested that a GP would make a good inline fuel heater. If I were to use some small diameter black iron pipe and mount a standard GP in it, would it be practical to use a resistor to cut the voltage down?

If the voltage to the GP were cut in half, wouldn't that help prevent the GP possibly burning out? Granted, it would not get nearly as hot, but would be longer lasting. I think it would take 20-30 seconds to heat the fuel properly and get it started through the filter and down to the IP.

I know that when you cut the voltage to a light bulb, the amperage draw goes up. Would this be the case, with a GP too?

This is just a thought/idea and I'm asking those that would know, if it would be possible.

i use one of these - i allows me to run a blend of biodiesel in winter (which i use for startups and shutdowns since i burn wvo once the engine warms up).
mine is thermostatically controlled and activated by a relay. No resistor needed and works great. I have it mounted at the inlet of the filter.

just use a psd glow plug they work great and one is all you need if your only running #2 I have 3 set up and it was getting the fuel so hot it was causing problems with it surging so I only run one durring the summer and 2 during the winter for wvo

Would that GP be a ZD12?

I think its a zd-11 but its been about a year since I bought them and they I beleive are a 10mm x 1.00. They need a shoulder to seal against other wise they will leak or atleast mine did so I drilled and tapped a pipe plug then JB cold welded it in so I can still remove it if needed

About ten years ago I plumbed in 2 tees in the heater hoses, adapted it to 3/8" refrigeration tubing (with shut offs) and wrapped the fuel filter with about 8 turns of tubing, covering the whole thing with thin fiberglass insulation and then aluminum flashing. I haven't had a gelling problem ever since.
