in search of the 303D045 freeze plug tool. does anyone have an extra, want to part with theirs or maybe know of some new old stock? I have the print to make it just want to see if there is any around.
Thanks

A few corrections on the above drawing if you are going to make one:

The material is not hardened, but is parkerized to have a black finish.

The body is made from 1.5 inch diameter stock, but the business end (last 1 inch) is cut down to 1.490 dia for clearance.

The part number on the punch (inner part you hammer on) is stamped around the head of the punch, not along its body.

These are given in the spirit of accuracy. Otherwise it is a very good sketch.

Interesting.
Iirc, that's the original one towcat posted years ago. So maybe it is off, I don't know.

The only reason I even made any remarks was because I wondered if it was hardened, as the sketch says. I checked my OTC tool and found it not to be so.

i forgot who I got it from. But, trust me on this, the sketch isn't mime.
chickens write better than I do. I used to work for my dad as a draftsman, I didn't do any lettering for a reason. CAD saved my ass. :D

Right. Maybe whoever made the drawing was recommending to harden it.
No telling.

Perhaps so, but that would just be overkill. The freeze plugs are not particularly tough and you are only staking them into the block. Aluminum could do the same job for that matter, although it would probably not last very long.

Parkerize mine and I'll beat you with it! Of course, you'd have to find it in my shed first, let me know when you do, I'm going to need it in the spring. LOL

Call mine overkill, turned it out of 4140 chrome-moly rod........
I got 8" long stubs from the lathe at work for free when I was working at Bourgault. :dunno
