Well I finally got to use the truck for it's intended purpose. Till now nothing but driving to work, a couple dump runs of a few hundred pounds, and towing a light trailer.
Yesterday took an 80 mile trip (each way) to get a 58 GMC project truck for a friend. I think I'm jealous.
Anyways, trailer is 2,200lbs, truck is between 3,400 and 5,000 (hard to get 100% definitive answer in my online searching). So 5,500-7,200lbs, likely on the lower side. Wen the GMC was loaded onto the trailer the truck's rear didn't go down noticeably, so leaf springs must be in good shape. I hardly noticed I was pulling the truck except for one very steep hill (30mph speed limit) and truck did fine on it. Fuel economy for the round trip was 12.3MPg, I think that works.
