Firewall cracking

There would absolutely zero reason to reinforce both sides, at no time under any circumstance is the master cylinder or any part of the clutch apply reverse pressure, IE from the engine side of the firewall towards the cab.



Not saying it does, I just believe if a little is good, then more MUST be better in terms of strengthening parts the factory made too weak.

I'm all about overkill, I over-design, over-repair all the time, make it last forever or as close to it as possible is my goal. But not when there is no point, and there just isn't any point in reinforcing the front side of that firewall. It'd be like putting washers on top of a nut instead of under it.

Putting the plate on the outside of the firewall is going to cause pedal travel problems, since the master mounts on the outside. It would move it's position and mess up your pedal geometry unless you had an adjustable rod on the master.

I was thinking a quick Rub Goldberg way to get through would be to make a bracket to fit on the studs that mount the master on the engine side, and run a long piece of metal all the way up and mount it to the radiator support. Definitely would not be pretty, but I bet it would stop it from moving.

this is slightly incorrect.... the 80-82 F-series got a mechanical linkage clutch and not the hydraulic clutch. some 83's even had the mechanical clutch still.

92+ is a completely different firewall and dash/steering column design. They are supposed to have a reinforcement built into the pedal assembly even though i have had requests for a reinforcement for these years...i do not make one for them. typically with the 92+ trucks if you have fire wall issues you have bigger issues (dash mount broken, pedal assy broken...etc)

^ Yep. Like pedal bushings and clutch linkage bushing.
I need both. Had done a clutch linkage bushing, but as of late, seems to be gone.

Oh, wow...you learn something new every day. I thought Ford had gone to all hydraulic clutch setups with the body changeover in 1980. At the same time, I've never dealt with an '80-'82 truck (or, other than briefly tinkering on '67 and '79 F-250's, on any g@$ truck), I just thought it was a logical assumption. But, you know what you get when you assume... LOL

Like you said, I think that, if the firewall's moving on an OBS truck, it's a symptom of a bigger problem...
