Finished my electric pump setup tonight

Well about a year and a half after I bought the pump, I finally got the damn thing all installed tonight.

It's a Carter P4070 pump, which is surprisingly quiet, and then an old filter head off a bulldozer with a 32 micron filter as a prefilter. Made a bracket for it so it mounts right behind the transfer case and to the skidplate, and everything seems to be working pretty well.

One question I do have is that I put a gauge on the line right where it goes into the filter head. It's showing about 2 psi of fuel pressure- which is exactly what my old mechanical lift pump was showing when I had the gauge on there before (and here I thought the lift pump was going out). What's the reason for that- bad gauge? It shows a little more than 3 PSI prior to starting the engine, then when I start it it drops down to 2.

Works fine so far but I can't tell if it's better than the stocker or not...Sure as hell makes bleeding the system a whole lot easier!

the drop in pressure dousent surprize me running it through the extra filter and fittings. its all extra resistance to the pump. i like the carter pumps though, dropped the holley to put one in.

i would be more worried about fuel pressure under load, the mechanical pump ramps up its output with engine rpm, the electric one is constant. it might start cutting short if you are revving it out.

Nice job! Looks a lot like my install. I'd suspect that gauge is faulty.

i like the setup, i am thinking the same sotra thing but put it under the hood or in my toolbox. cant have things under the truck.

But it's showing the same pressure that the mechanical pump was showing with no pre filter down the line or anything?

Honestly I'm wondering if I might have an air bubble caught under the gauge. I think the base of it may be higher than the air bleed valve.

researching around,the carter or the dura lifts are the way to go.great pumps.
you'll never go back to that old school mechanical now.

I will say to anyone considering an electric pump- hooking it up is super easy. The hardest part is figuring out how to mount it and where you want it.

I'll try to get a picture of how I did the wiring...but it was really easy as well. Basically I ran power from the battery to a fuse block (to allow me to add other things later if I want to). I used the red/green striped wire from the glow plug relay for my 12V switched signal, and used that to switch a relay, then ran the power wire through the relay so the pump only runs when the key is in the "start" or "run" positions.
