Here she is, my new 86 F-250. After some digging, I'm disappointed in my $900 purchase. You'll see why, I should have paid more attention to detail.

Aaaaannnnndddd that's about all the goods. Now for all the goodies that I very plainly overlooked and am now coming to realize...

Firstly, one look at that horrible intake and I should have known that the previous owner really had no idea what kind of engine they were working on.

Wiring surprise, still have NO idea what that switch on the right does.

On a last note, a couple more pros to this, I believe it has the Sterling rear end with a Dana 50 front, can someone please confirm from pics? Will provide axle codes too.

My golly son, just what were you hoping to buy with $900.00?

I think that you did quite well.

I think thats great for 900 interior looks clean for an 86!

I just bought a 86 for parts and I have that same switch in that same spot!! I thought it was aftermarket but maybe not! I tried playing with it and didn't notice it doing anything; hope someone on here knows!

Nice tuck for the price you paid. Its got a clean interior. It can easily haul something and its 4x4... For $900.00. Nice buy... Now get a proper air filter on the engine and all will be great..

The lower part of the dash is a convenient place for switches. That switch could power the CB, a trailer brake controller, it could activate a previously unknown rear mounted tailgater abatement flamethrower. Who knows... My brown truck had three, yes three switches mounted down there. One for some long-gone bed mounted spotlights, One for the trailer brake controller, and one was just hanging out for the ride.

I do know if I accidentally hit the "spotlight" switch, I would blow the accessory fuse.. I'm afraid you're going to have to sleuth around under there to see if you can identify what it does.

:D

I bought my first IDI for $1000 and it needed everything fixed on it, transmission leaked a gallon of ATF every week, someone even botched an engine rebuild on the poor rig, as it had a really awful pulsating vibration at around 2500 rpm (sort of reminded you of Clark W. Griswold's hotel bed in National Lampoon's Vacation)

Point is, if it runs, and drives, and is street-legal, $900 ain't a bad deal... ;Sweet
