fast idle solenoid

I think is going south. Whe I start the engine it will run at 600rpm but if I step on it it will go up to 700-750rpm, then after a trip (most any distance) if I stop it will idle at 850-900rpm all the time. So any way to test it or just buy a new one?tips?

is it being told to fire? as in is the temp switch closing when it's not supposed to.

Should have mentioned that Saturday EZ. We could have looked at it quick. I'd say disconnect the wire going to the solenoid to make sure it isn't something mechanical hanging up on you.
