Too far out of reach for most need that $100K to just look I bet .Then just seams to be a waste of truck to use it for just tooling around.

NBA star toy. The IH is prolly a better truck, although they're both rolling off the same assembly line now that IH is building Ford medium chassis.

I'll take the DT over the 5.9L anyday.

Definently. No quesiton about it. The 5.9 is a great pickup engine, but in a medium duty probably not the best choice.

Hey Stephen,

Isn't it funny how if you drive M/D's consistently with DT's, Cummins', etc., you can truly say that with confidence?

Comparing the B5.9 cummins to the DT466 is an apples and oranges thing, the C8.3 Cummins is a lot closer comparison, the DT probably still wins anyway;)

The last time I looked at the ford website it still showed the 7.3 in the 450, 550, and as the base engine in the 650? The 6.0 was only shown in the 250 and 350, is this acurate or is the website out of date?

Whitmore,
The DT466 is probably one of the best M/D diesels ever. It started as a mechanical, rotary pump diesel back in the mid 70's. It then changed over to an in-line Bosch pump up until ~'95, then it became the DT466E (electronic).

Most popular power level is 210/540. It makes ~90% of it's torque on clutch engagement, so it doesn't bog down out of the hole.

It's found in trucks from 22,000-76,000 GVWR and many types of farm & commercial macinery, even log skidders, so it's quite versatile

It has many power ratings up to from 190/520 up to 300/860 and has very few known problem areas.

It is very cheap for parts. I have a friend working at IH parts and has quoted me $5,500 for a completely new engine....much less than most light diesel engines.
