It would probably take me a long weekend. That said, I'm sure there are guys that can do it in half a day. I think it depends on experience and the tools and equipment you have.

I once took a bone stock truck in on Monday, and pulled the engine, lapped the valves, ported the heads, installed studs, did the coolant mod, installed new valve seals, comp 910s, resealed the engine, added a typ4 60-1 turbo, new pump and injectors then reinstalled it ready to drive back across the country on Sunday. It was around 72 hours of work, and I would never do it again, but it can be done. If you are just pulling the engine and dropping in another, I’d say you could get it done in a weekend. I pull the front clip out and can have the engine out in 3-4 hours, but I do this kind of work on these trucks every day. If you pull the oil filter and starter you should be able to have the engine out on Saturday, and new engine in on Sunday. You will need to refill the ac, but I think with a weekend you could knock it out.

NO!!! From what I read, the above posts were talking about removing an engine and then installing another, complete engine. It will take longer than suggested since you're having a long block installed. You also have to figure time to remove, clean, and then reinstall the parts that don't come with the long block. It shouldn't take a huge amount longer, but it will take longer. Also, make REAL sure that the shop will clean and reseal your oil cooler too. Can it be done quickly? Sure, but there's probably not a lot of shops with much experience in doing a R&R on these engines any more. I'd say that if it takes a shop much longer than 2 1/2 days, there's probably something wrong.

I was talking about removing an existing engine.... putting all the bolt on parts on the long block then installing it.
Just about all the parts have been replaced within the last t 5 yrs. except the oil cooler so i should probably install a new one and be done with it huh ?

It took me 3 days in a van to swap the blocks and reinstall all the accessories (cables, hoses, exhaust, radiator, condenser, tranny cooler, bumper, grill, and etc). But I wasted probably 12 hours with wrapping pipes, painting, and other luxury tasks that could have been cut out if I wanted to rush the job.

I'd say yes. Since the oil cooler will be easy to access anyway, definitely the time to reseal it. I could easily swap out a complete engine and replace it with another complete one in a weekend. Having to remove, clean, and reinstall all of the parts to make a long block complete? I'd say to give another day. A professional shop that has to do the same thing? Unless they're familiar with the engine and it's removal, I doubt that they would be much faster. Maybe I should have said 2 1/2 to 3 days in my earlier post. There are some tricks to doing this and they do help you go a lot faster. Complete for complete and N/A, I used to be able to swap out by myself in a 9 hour work day when I was doing this for a living. It took me 3 hours to pull my engine last summer and I felt like that was too slow.

I can build you a crate engine with whatever you want done to it. I wouldn’t buy a longblock on eBay if it were me. Justin with R&D is doing engines as well.
