Where is everyone getting their key on 12 volt power to run an electric fuel pump? Adding one to my 1986 F350 6.9

Fss wire. Fuel shut off. Think it's the closest wire connection to the radiator on top of the IP. Make sure to use a relay, don't use this as primary power. There's a great write up in the tech articles somewhere

Use a relay. Get the switch signal for the relay from the fuel shutoff solenoid on the injection pump and power and ground the relay right to the battery. Then your pump is only on when the key is on run and the up can accept the fuel.

I did later run a toggle switch into the cab for the trigger wire from the ip solenoid and back to the relay because when I want to roll the windows back up or something that requires the key to be at run for a minute I didn't like the pump still running for nothing but thats totally not necessary.

I often wonder about installing a deadman roll over collision switch that the efi guys have inline w their setup.....usually inner drivers kick iirc could be pass cant recall

Passenger on the ford pickups and Broncos.
Some use that and a oil pressure switch.

Just DON'T do what the previous owner did on mine.... The stupid cut the power wire for the blower motor BEFORE THE FUSES and wired it to that with NO FUSE! He also spliced like 4 pieces of wire between there and the pump...:frustrate :idiot:

Mine is connected to the FSS but I did not need a relay. I am using a marine Walbro pump, very little current draw.
I recently installed hydroboost so will be installing an electric vacuum pump and junking the belt pump. I will be installing one relay to power the fuel and vacuum pumps, switched by the FSS.

Here are some oil pressure switches that have two contacts. One is closed when there is no oil pressure for an oil pressure light. The other is closed when there is pressure for a fuel pump.

However, I have switches that allow me to run the pump off the pressure switch, or whenever I decide I want to run the pump - like for test or priming, or never. But I have driven off with the pump not running, and the injection pump pulled fuel thru the supply pump and the frame mounted filter, and it ran fine. I finally noticed the pump light was off and turned the pump on.

And when someone says "it didn't need a relay", how many things do you say that about before they add up to enough to fry the key switch contacts? I have gotten all the high power circuits out of the cab - head lights, trans, fuel pumps,,,. I have added about ten relays.

Lots of different options of course but I tapped a fuse that had power when ignition was on so I didnt have to tap into the factory harness for a cleaner install

my Hardi electric pump is powered by the GP relay.
As the GPR has only power when engine is running, that´s a good solution. The GPR itself gets power via the starter relay, as probably known.
