I run a Carter, have been for 2 years or so with no problems. I ran the lines out of my selector to the passenger side, then converted to metal into a Perma Cool filter, then stainless braided pro flex all the way to the fuel filter head (a 7.3 unit) and it's worked great. I had one issue where I thought the Perma Cool clogged, but I've since began to believe it was actually out of fuel. I've had it die a couple times with just under 1/2 tank in the front tank, the last time, I raised the bed, pulled the sending unit and the tank had less than 1/2 inch of fuel...so I'm guessing I need to bend the float arm a little to correct. Anyway, the Carter is half the price of a Holley. Carter gave me mine to try on diesel after a design change and it's worked great. Part number is in my sig.
