Hi,

New the to this site, looks awesome. I had a question about electric fuel pumps.

If I tap into the Fuel Shut off Solenoid to get signal to the fuel pump relay, will fuel be flowing during the wait to start cycle?

If so what would happen if someone were to "listen to the radio" with the key in the wait to start position?

Would the electric fuel pump just keep running?

If so..

Is there a way to limit the run time of the pump for a few seconds like in a gas truck?

Is this still the pump everyone likes..

Thanks in advance

yeah thats the one.you can get it from Doug here, just with the Carrier Transicold brand name.same pump.
well no,you don't pull power from the FSS.you pull it directly from the battery, but can use the FSS to open a relay between the bat/pump.this is how i did it.
the pump turns on and stays running when you turn the key froward.
sounds like you just want to put it on a toggle though for just priming.

you don't need to mess around trying to get it mounted upright imho.
that's just if you need the advertized max pressures.
we need like all of 3 lbs under load haha.least thats what stock lift pumps provide at best.so im not worried about a possible drop to 7 or 8 by mounting it laying down(which i doubt it even drops that much.i dunno though.no pressure gauge.);)

they're made for pulling,so you can mount them up out of the way.rated for diesel fuel, and have a built in pre-screen filter so you don't need the hassle of installing a pre-filter.
pretty dang hard pump to beat for our applications.rated way over what we need for pressure, but im getting no ill effects or anything, nor has anyone else.
its the way to go.just don't try 'em for WMO or other thick fuels and it should outlast our trucks.

this might help you understand some

this covers the electrical more

Your key on wire controls how it is turned on so if you want you can just run it of a toggle, or whatever you want. If someone turns the key on and leaves the pump running to listen to the radio fuel will just circulate up to the engine and back into the tanks but why wouldnt you just turn the key backwards for acc power, that does not put power to the fss and lets you listen to the radio.

Or you can do what I did and install a low pressure oil cutout. Mine will only run when there is 7 PSI or more oil pressure. It will actually start when cranking the engine. Been on there for 5 or so years with good results. I run the Carter and a perma cool pre-filter/water separator.

Good info fellas. I'm taking a lunch break from fixing my little Honda car. I am just gathering info to see if I can do it. I know to turn the key backwards but I let my friends use the truck once in a while...if you know what I mean. What I didn't know was that the fuel just recirculates, I didn't want it going some place that it did not belong or hitting a block and burning out the pump. I'll read those threads later to further wrap my head around the process.

Again...Thanks

Hook the radio up to a switch. Only takes one wire. Key on = pump and ip on.

Right now I've been just unhooking the relay trigger wire when I want the truck on without the pump running

Thanks redneckaggie,

I just finished going through those threads and it seems to make enough sense. I ordered a facet pump yesterday after checking my fuel pressure and found that the gauge was not even registering pressure, maybe one or two psi at 2000 rpms with my old mechanical pump

So is it a consensus to use a 30 amp relay and 5 amp fuse?

Thanks everyone

Oh, one more question.

Do I use the stock filter and housing? I know I could use a racor or something fancy, but there is that funny thing about money and time if you know what I mean.

Thanks

stock filter and housing are just fine just reroute the lines to by pass the mechanical pump. pull the mechanical install a big block chevy block off plate in its place. If you do not bypass the mechanical then leaving the pump running without the truck running will burst the diaphragm on the mechanical pump and fill your crankcase with oil.

I use a 30 amp 4 pin relay and a 5 amp fuse, been fine for about 4 years

Cool, I just bought a block off plate and waiting for my pump to get here.

I'll get the electrical stuff on my next trip to the parts store.
