Ebrake cables

Whell, I just installed all new ebrake cables on my truck, 2 rears and the front.... Including that foot pedal assembly.....wow, why did they have to change it from the old style!!!

Anyhow, I have about 5" inches of space between the couplers, and was wondering the best way to go about getting these togther...i pulled hard, but couldent get much play. help?

My guess is you got the wrong front cable and it will not reach.

There are about ten dozen different lengths according to wheel-base length.

I cannot remember how short mine was when I changed them...but... I used a ratchet strap to pull the brake side up to the bracket and was able to connect them with very little effort

I told them what truck I had, but they only asked lengthss for the rear cables...which fit fine.

The front short cable was the correct length, as everything fit into its clamp hole ok.

The only old cable I retained was the "free air" cable which connects the front portion to the splitter along the frame rail.

I think that I just have a bunch of slack at the brake drums (sure looked like it) and needed a way to pull up the slack!

One more issue...That damn crazy ebrake foot lever assembly...I had to remove the whole damn thing, plastic trim peices, etc just to replace the cable. It had a small white "stopper" in the gear teeth area which I removed, and by holding the toothed cog, I seemed to be able to "reset" the slack adjustor... My question, when this is all said and done, how do I correctly set the freeplay, or does that do it on its own? I liked the old style with the nut along the frame rail you would tighten....
