so my cousin's 87 idi pickup c6 finally bit the dust. we got a zf5 from a super duty awhile back. now that we're putting it in I realized there's no speedo drive off of the parking brake assembly.

Google tells me the speedo is electronic off of the rear axle. is this true? if it is could we swap in a super duty/f450 cluster and wire in a signal from the sterling 10.25 granted it's the same signal as the dana 80

C6 runs it from the transmission tail housing on the driver side.

You can get cheap GPS speedometers online that run from a 5V USB cable power source. Wire it up to a 12v to USB port attached to an ignition switch power source and away you go.

Assuming the clusters swap(I don't know about that), the next issue is that the 87 rear end won't have an exciter ring in it. They didn't put them in till early 90's I think. So for all that it might be easier to find a ZF5 that works out of the gate.

Others know a lot more than me on the subject.

Not sure about the 87 but the 89 I used to drive had the abs in the rear axle which is where the speedometer is picked up on the aero and up trucks.

Just don't drive like "No Duke" and you'll be fine. In 5th gear at 2000rpm with 4:10 you're doing @54-55mph.

If the trans came off a super duty, I would assume it had the driveline brake on it. Speedo gear would be on that, otherwise it would be on the transfer case output flange.

1992+ I believe went to going off the diff sensor.

I don't know what mine came off of, but there's no hole for the speedo. It was sitting in a carport on one of my deliveries. I recognized the bell housing and the guy said I could have it because his buddy left it there months before and hadn't gotten it or mentioned it and he wanted it gone.
