E4od is shot , zf5 swap questions

My e4od is on it's last leg. It still shifts great but it's whining when OD is switched off and a local transmission shop said it needs a bearing inside the transmission replaced. I am looking into swapping in a 5speed.

I found a 5spd trans from an ext.cab long bed which is the same as mine. Everything is there .. Drive lines, pedal assy, bell housing, flywheel, etc.
I have an ATS turbo with the larger exhaust housing and down pipe. Will a 5spd even fit with this kit or would it have to be a turbo kit specifically for a 5spd?
Are the transfer cases the same?
It seems like a pretty straight forward swap as long as it will fit with my turbo setup.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I did some digging, which I should have done prior to posting .. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The turbo will be fine.
The transfer case is the same.
I need the pcm or I can splice some wires on the mlps.
There's something about a hose that connects to a switch on the pedal assy for the cruise control. I don't use cruise ( It SUCKS) so I shouldn't have to mess with it.
I'll have to figure out the reverse lights and start switch ..


I'm going to make an offer on the whole truck to make the swap easier.

How tight are the zf's? Any way to tell if it's shot?

before ya make a offer check the fluid level on that 5 spd if its low could be a leaker and run dry ,a few times ,

You also won't need the pcm (actually TCM).
Other than that, it's just R&R.

Should be pretty easy. I would get a Luk single mass flywheel and heavy duty clutch kit, it's much nicer than the stock clutch and gets rid of the dual mass thing.

Might have to modify the rear x-member a bit. I know on a C6 to ZF swap you have to use the ZF one and drill new holes.

Delete the PCM/TCM entirely. Reverse lights are easy, just splice 2 wires.

I think you're lost on something.
A manual trans has no use for a computer. The idi also has no use for a computer.

That's what I thought! I was Googling this swap and a few people were saying you had to either swap tcm's, splice mlps wires or chip the e4 tcm. I was like, ***?

Now that I think about it ... they were probably talking about a PS

Only reason you need the pcm is the speedometer depending on the year of your truck (cable driven or electronic speedo.reverse lights and neutral safety are simple to take care of.try to make sure you get the reverse light connector with the tranny, if you dont get it I believe the windshield washer pump uses the same or close enough to the same connector.

Get the crossmember and front half of rear driveshaft.believe you will also need the front shaft as well.one tranny is longer than the other.

94450sd, washer pump is same harness style you say? Thats great news because my manual dint come with one, and reversing with no lights in the downtown core is very hairy lol

i would have asked how much to replace just the said bearing if you removed the trans and brought it to them.being that it doesn't show any signs of slipping or anything.

It has been a great trans other than the recent noise. I just can't justify putting an automatic back in. I've never been a fan of autos.
I think I will pull it apart and replace the bearing if it's something I can do without special tools, and sell it to help recover money spent on the 5spd.
It kind of sucks that I JUST replaced the fuel lines and switched to manual selector valves, which I mounted on the trans tunnel. Now I'll have to move them somewhere else ..

I should be able to get the whole truck for $700. It has a cracked block but I should be able to part it out and scrap the rest and hopefully get most of it back.

95% certain that the speedo is run on it's own - uses signal off the rear axle sensor and process it in the speedo pcb board, then outputs this signal to the ECM, TCM, cruise, etc. I know I've got a later model electronic cruise control (off a 92 I think?) and it works fine with just the speedo board and cruise electronics.
