Any plans to put the cam in your engine soon Cory?

Also, somebody asked why it came out of Goose's truck: IIRC, he was having valve train issues and so they swapped it back to stock just to eliminate that variable. It turned out something else was the cause of the problem though, maybe the oil cooler.

yea the oil cooler bypass valve stuck closed and jacked the oil pressure sky high and caused the pushrods to go through the rockers

Yes, Corey and I took the cam out for troubleshooting purposes. Don't count me out for putting on in this winter though.:sly I would like to see the power come on a bit sooner. My engine is a stock reman by Promar, click on the link in my signature for more info. The turbo was rebuilt, 3" outlet, down pipe and exhaust, and has the same amount of miles as the engine. The pump is a stock build that Mel's builder had on his own NA truck and has about 15-20,000 miles on it with stock out of the box BB code injectors. Timing was at 9.5 deg@ 2000rpms if I remember, Corey timed it when he came down to help me last year.

I had about 8,000 miles on it at the time of the dyno and feel that it is just getting broke in. Relating this to Heath's truck, I think he will clear a bit of smoke and gain some more power as his break in gains some more miles.

I initally told them 3600 rpm's. After the 2nd pull they asked me what I wanted to do because the truck hadn't peaked out on power as of yet. I told them to go for 4 grand KNOWING that it would de-fuel before that. The graph tells the rest.

Despite out horsing everyone by 10hp or so the Moose pumps put me in my place as far as torque goes. The Moose equipped trucks out gunned me by about 70 lbs of torque and if they post their graphs, you will see a curve that pleatous early and carries across the rpm range to create a very useable range of almost max torque.:hail The metering that the builder puts into the Moose pump is very apparant upon seeing the graphs. It was very interesting to see the difference. I was surprised to see their runs completed by 31-3200 rpms. In the end I concluded that I out horsed them solely on the extra rpm's my set up allowed. Hmm, maybe a higher rpm Moose pump.......;Really

Sweet, Nice numbers Guy's.... Love to see the power up in the RPM is so flat. Some good info in the mix of builds. This makes me feel real comfortable with my Build. Great Job guys.

Remember guys, that torque is what moves things, and that is the really important number. HP is an imaginary figure that confuses a lot of people. It's torque, not HP that will pull that trailer over the mountain in overdrive. The reason Moose Pumps are governed where they are is that fueling decreases the higher the RPM's go. You might see more HP, but less torque, and when your driving your truck, it's the torque that makes you happy. Not the HP. Just something to think about. Look at it this way....

But the locomotive has enough torque to pull a 10,000 ton mile long train up a hill all day and all night.

The pulling tractor will struggle to drag maybe 10 tons 300 feet. I know it's an apples to oranges comparison, so just imagine the tractor 's engine inside the carbody of the locomotive and see how that feels to you.

I wouldn't be surprised if the diesel in that "tractor" had more horsepower than the diesel engine in the locomotive.

That is why I'm interested in this thread, and why the numbers are so different with similar mods done to the engines.
All seem to have:
manuals
at least a 3" exhaust
timed the same
Turbos, but the two with the highest torque numbers have Banks.

A little different would be BB vs Moose injectors
one "type4" cam, but a stock cam put up the same numbers?
3 of the pumps are Moose, and on one it looks like a 50hp gain over the previous.

I'd guess intakes also would play into the power but nothing is listed in the truck descriptions.

I understand the value of torque. The extra 70ft lbs was very apparant in Corey's truck as we were grossing similar weights and he could hold a gear on a grade longer than I. Russ put up 218/461 with an ATS turbo so I know there is more to be had. I wonder what his max rpm's were on that pull. I also understand that it was a different dyno on a different day.

This was the first time I have had a vehicle on a dyno, I guess it just leaves my with all of the questions of what to do next.LOL It definitely leaves me with a desire to do something with my truck and see how it adds up next year.:sly

More importantly to me are two things...one, does the torque curve fall off on a moose pump at 3000+ RPM? or just remain flat. On my truck when it was equipped with 4.10's and stock height tires (still have stock height tires and 3.73's) I would have to have the 3500 RPM to maintain speed with traffic on a 70 MPH highway. How fast i got to the governor may improve, but having a governor set at 2800 RPM would kill me with the 4 speed and stock tire size. That being said, I no longer have the 4.10's and 4 speed (along with the 3.73's, I also added a ZF5), but would still like to be able to red line at/or around 3400 (mine will actually creep above that.

I think a higher RPM moose pump would be awesome!

I hope Heath or Corey gets their sheet scanned for you to see. The Moose equipped trucks were finished by 3200 rpm's or so but the torque came on really early and they delivered maximum torque from about 2000rpm's to the governor whereas my torque figures resemble more of a hill with the rise and fall.
