I'm heavily considering converting my 94 into a Dually. I was eye'ing those Arrowcraft adapters, are they of good quality? If/when I do this I'll convert over to a flat bed, so I'm not really interested in their fender flares, just the adapters.

Advice anyone?

just remember the pros and cons first.

pro's;
added payload and increased stability for towing.

cons;
reduced fuel economy.reduced traction.more tires to buy,rotate and balance.increased ride firmness.

yes arrowcraft goods are probably the best $ can buy, if going this route for your conversion.
personally: arrowcraft aa4 series front/true drw pickup axle swap out back.

Thx! I had a tire blowout in the middle of no where w/ no shoulder, and trailer in tow this weekend. It wasn't my idea of a good time. All I can think about is how I had my kids in the pickup with me, and what "could" have happened. With the DRW I could have at least nursed it to a safe spot in the road. I like redundancy.

Yea the winter driving will not be as fun, I've had duallys and they plain suck in the snow/ice.

Thanks for your info n the Arrowcraft adapters. I think I'll order me a set and get going on this pretty soon

Um NO NO NO NO the conversion does not increase payload, I had a set of those on the ONE ton White Elephant I purchased, here is a decal on the door RIGHT from Arrow craft

The only thing this does is add an extra tyre which is a safety issue in case of blow out.

For a true dually and actual increase in GVW, you need to add the proper dually rear diff and corresponding front suspension be it 4x or 2x....

The adapters do not increase GVW!

In the states anyway, to increase the #'s on that magic GVWR tag, you have to be a manufacturer or an "upfitter" . Im' pretty sure those tires are the limiting factor on our rigs, so adding more of them out back should increase that. The difference is at least here, we can't get those magic updated stickers to "give" us more payload capacity.
For my use, I really don't care about the increased #. I'm not running commercial, and I don't intend to run overly heavy. For me, it's just about redundancy

You could put dually hubs on the front of your truck. The Dana 60 I bought for my truck was a dually axle. I pulled the hubs with rotors off and picked up a set of hubs with rotors off a srw truck. Not sure what a set of hubs goes for but guessing its cheaper than the adapters. I sold my adapters to a buddy years ago.

Not sure if this is the case but every time my dad ever had a blow out on his drw it blew the both from the first tire blowing. IMHO it's a better ride an toes better but does not mean its a spare.

I've got a set of the true dually front adapters on a spare axle if interest. Only problem is they are a bit heavy.

Towing with a dually will stableize the hauling load but... If the inside dual gets low on pressure all the load on that side will be concintrated on the tire left with pressure. Now how long your driving with a low tire depends on your fuel stop walkarounds. About 12 years ago I was headed for Canada in a chevy crewcab dually gasser hauling 4 horses. It was 2 am leaving time and as I walked around looking over the tires I found a big nail in the inside passenger side tire. The owner was not so worried about it and told me that we would ..."fix it on the road"....:eek::eek:cookoo We were completely loaded up... Engine running.. Ready to pull out.. So I changed the tire and off we went.... With no spare across the nevada desert. We had the tire fixed in Utah finally.... That was the last time I drove anywhere with the guy.... Having an extra set of rear tires is nice but its no garentee the fronts wont blow on you. One could even feel they have three spares by driving a dually... I'm not that comfortable thinking that way... A spare is a tire thats not on the road but in the bed or under the carrier rack... Where its safe ...

Keep in mind that on a dually when 1 rear tire blows often they both blow hint why a lot of semis are going to single extra wide wheels/tires, same stability/weight rating as duals but only have one to check/change

when I do a conversion, a pickup dually axle for the rear is mandatory for truck being used to haul heavy. there's a reason for the additional track width of 4 inches on each side. the bearing offset is moved outwards on the dualy conversion therefore putting a higher preload on the outer hub bearings.
