Well I found a new one today. After spending 2 hours chasing a HUGE oil leak (6 quarts in 70 miles) I finally found it.

I was convinced it was my oil return from the hypermax turbo leaking. It has done that to me before and since the oil was from the passenger side around the starter it made sense to me, as it would have been coming from the valley pan drain.

I looked under it a few times and couldn't pin point it until I got a nice big drop of oil in my eye. Then I noticed oil streaming out around the dip stick tube. Turns out it made itself a 2 piece.

No real point to this story, just goes to show you anything can and will break someday. I'll take a picture in the morning of it for you guys.

My 94 had rubbed through the dipstick on the manifold. Never saw it till I pulled the manifolds.

Mine isn't leaking yet, but is badly rusted, so I am replacing it when I pull the heads in the near future. Thank goodness you can still buy these things from Ford and they aren't outrageously expensive - yet.

Just make sure you get the correct length tube. Pretty sure towcat IIRC said there is three different lengths, either that or get the dip stick and tube together.

Many early 7.3 have the fitting in the block that the tube slides into. The tube has a place for an oring but hell with that. I just use RTV and the seal never leaks. This is true bout several different length tubes and sticks. If in question just refill with a known nuber of quarts of oil and check the stick. Make a mark if the stick is not telling you its full. There.. Solved that issue.

Oh, crap - I wonder if I ordered the right one then! Guess I had better measure. Always better to measure after you have the new part in handLOL
