Whats the difference with the A155HA 6.9 and the A170 6.9? Besides obviously the one having the different HP ratings.
All of our 83's have the 170hp rated engine. The crate 6.9 doesnt say what it is though (how else could we tell?).
The low mile 83 has the ford IH sticker peeling off, but under it is the original IH sticker that has only the one model number on it and it says 170 on it.

Well the A155HA is the 155 horsepower model, for high altitude use. Hence the A155HA. The other one is just the run of the mills 170 horsepower model. Did the crate engine come with an IP on it? If it didnt it just depends on what IP you throw on there. I think both IP's are the same for the 155 and 170 hp versions, just the 155 horsepower version will flow less fuel per stroke.

Thats how i understand it too.
Somone said on here that the 170hp 6.9 was rare or something. I guess it might be in canada though.

I would have thought the 170HP model the most common. That's what all mine are. Being that it is just the calibration of the pump, it's a meaningless number once you turn the fuel screw. The biggest difference in 6.9's is that there are in fact two models. The model A and the model B. Only the early 6.9's with the philips head screws on the valve covers were model A's, and anybody who ever did a valve cover gasket job on one of those most likely removed that easily identified trait. Model A's had slightly lower compression, and the philips screws, and probably the 6 ring oil cooler. I'm not aware of any other differences.

I appologize for the very late post. I'm new the this site and just trying to learn from older posts. But, my truck has the factory 6.9L in it and my model # does not seem to fit the guidlines that I'm reading. I have a model #B175 but it also has phillips head valve cover bolts. Can someone clear up my confusion???

Thanks

I realize that I have a 175hp engine, why does a model B have phillips head bolts on the valvecovers? Also, I don't see any models with 175hp here, just curious as to why?

Thanks,

Well I have heard of them, but they are rarer than the 170hp models.
The phillips head valve cover bolts are because of it being an 83/84 model engine.

There are 2 phases of the 6.9. The model A and the model B. Model A engines had the phillips heads, along with slightly lower compression. Not much else changed.
