Different automatic transmission than OEM?

Has anyone ever heard of putting in a different automatic transmission? Hopefully mine will go forever. But if it died, I'd REALLY love to have better gearing and not be at 2k RPM or whatever at 60 and 2200 or so at 70. Gogo better fuel economy at 70, sheesh.

Just got a 98 suburban with a 350. That thing is a bit under to 2k rpm at 70. Maybe I can steal it's transmission. J/K!

Generally speaking... The type of trans has nothing to do with vehicle speed. Its the rear end gear ratio that determines truck or cAR speed. Its true that changing from a 3 speed C6 trans to an E4OD 4 speed gives you a higher top speed but.. It still depends on the rear end gear ratio .

What transmission do you have? You should have 4.10 for rear gears. You could go to 3.55 that is more of a highway gear.

Not a real truck, but it's considered one. 2004 Windstar, 60 MPH 2000 RPM, 70 MPH 2200 RPM, according to the read out Miles to Empty I was getting 3 MPG, was just curious last nite to see that. Actually get 17 - 19 MPG at those speeds calculated.

Yes, you can put something else in it. Same with engine swaps. Usually, something new is better, but if you want better efficiency, it is far more practical to get a newer truck. At a point, it become far more economically prudent to get a newer truck than keep an old one going or updated. Mine has not reached that point, but I do all my own work and I'm a tightwad.

Now a couple dudes are putting the Allison (like from the duramax) on powerstrokes. It would take a lot of money, but with a idi, you would never hurt it. Lol

E4OD I think, will sit tight with what I have. Doesn't seem like it's worth changing to 3:55 unless the current 4:10 dies. Thanks all!

If it's two wheel drive, just swap em.
3.73 may not be a big step, but could be worth it.
Maybe a better torque convertor.
