Well, I finally got to read the Diesel Power artical about my truck and all that I have done. My daughter bought all the copies of the mag she could find... She thinks I'm famous all over town now. Anyway, there are some things things that were left out like the Moose pump and my head porting but... I really feel Jason did a good job of exposing the oilburners web site. I hope we get plenty of questions from the expousre. I really didn't say all 15 ways to make your truck last forever. Maybe some of them but not all of them. I can hear Russ laughing now saying... Gary can talk forever on anythnig... Well, thats true too...:D Its really funny to see your likeness and thoughts in print for a national magazine. As I continue my next buildup I will stay in contact with Jason and try to keep pics and documentation of whats going on internally better than I did on my last motor.

Yes... The next motor build is another 7.3 motor but this time I will be doning a few things differantly. I have not finished my porting design as of yet but it continues. The precup chambers in the heads will be "opened up and cleaned out". The precups may have the throats opened up just a little. For that work I really need a comparater but thats not going to happen. They are expensive. They will be CC'd for an equal power balance. I will be talking with Barnett about what they are doing on their head porting stage 1, 2 and 3 . I still have not found out if the 7.3 turbo blocks are any differant from the non turbo blocks. I'm told the bottom end webs in the block are around 100 thousands wider. I really dought this is true because the main bearings are all the same in even the 6.9 motors. We will see later. I will be dropping the piston height in the cylinders to something around 24 thousands up out of the cylinders. I did that on my current motor and it still has 530 lbs of compression. It will be running a Moos pump and just maybe a set of Moose injectors. The turbo will be my spare Banks Sidewinder thats wastegated. Injector pop pressure is not designed yet. The Moose injectors are a multi port design but as to hoe many ports is still on the drawing boardsfor me at this time. I may try a harder main and rod bearing too. I found a set that has some promises to it about being really a spectactular type of material and presission. The oil pump will have some work done on it too. I just want to tighten up some demensions that Typ4 has shared with me. This rotating elements will be balanced closer than my motor I'm running now. although it runs very smooth I just want it closer than 1/3 to 1/4 gram differance between pistons being exact. I can reach that but its not really needed. Our motors don't turn up high enough for this to be a problem. The Mahle engineers told me these pistons can be as much as 14 grams differance in weight and run fine... I really dought that. 14 grams at 3500 rpm is going to shake the heck out of the motor and it wont lats long. I'm not going to find out how long it can last thats for sure. You may be asking what I estimate the rwhp might be... I really don't use numbers. I know whatever I do there is still propane and water **** injection available for horsepower so the hp is really endless for me. I'm just doing what will make better useable horsepower and mileags for all to have.

It really wasn't his truck featured, it was more that HE was featured.

I just got the mag today and will be reading it tonight.

Looks good! Congrats!

Very cool Gary.....I need to find a copy of this issue.

Did Jason (Sands right?) have any idea if he, David, or Mike might be making the trip to Bowling Green for the Rally? I know Mike and David both said something about it in the past. I've email Dave and Mike from time to time with info. and updates, but I've gotten no response.:dunno

I'd be really cool to have DP there for the event.

I'm the other Jason. Thompson.
I'm glad you liked the article.. overall. Although I too wish we could have added more like the Moose Pump and the porting. There is always next time. Once you send the article to press you can't get it back.
I am very new to Ford IDIs and really appreciate all the help oilburners.net has provided me.
I am always looking for more diesel related material for the magazine so email me at:
[email protected] (I like using this route so you can send high res images about three at a time 10 MB file size per email)
Thanks again Gary and oilburners.net

Opps..... I wasn't sure which Jason.......and I guessed wrong.

Thanks again for doing some IDI articles in DP. There are a ton of these trucks out there and a lot of guys who love 'em.;Sweet

As the host of the 2009 IDI Rally We would love to have DP there for the event. My hope is that you can convoy with Gary from Souther California to Bowling Green. It would be cool to see the DP truck. You'd get a ton of ideas for mods you could do to the DP IDI, plus, we'd all love to meet you in person.;Sweet Mel can time the DP truck for free.:D

If you guys tend to fly to events, we can arrange to pick you up if you like. Also, I'm sure we could comp a Rally shirt or two for ya.:D

WOW! I am MIA for a little while (still can't get on Oilburners on my computer???) and something awesome like this happens. Comgratulations Gary. I will be getting this issue for sure.

As you may remember I am currently doing a 6.9 build. Everything is at the machine shop at the moment but I have not purchased bearings yet. Is there anything you can share on the improved bearings you mentioned?

I must thank you for enlightening so many of us on these motors with your special projects. I for one have benefitted from the things you've learned.

Dirtleg... The bearings I'm looking into are made of a better material and to a higher precission than any others on the market... So they say... They are on Ebay and are located about 100 miles north of me in Bakersfield Ca. Thats as far as I have gotten so far. I'll find them on Evilbay and post the link here.
