All good man, I say leave the post. There so little out there for cleaning this stuff off things. Yep agree use lye as last resort. Okay so neutralize with weak vinegar. Should be obvious if the surface of the aluminum starts to react then I know there is some lye still on it. If not then it would seem that it got rinsed off decently.

The aluminum surface should oxidize again giving it the protective layer correct?

So just tried a little vinegar test. No reaction. I am thinking that I rinsed it pretty well the first time with Hot hot and lots of water. Also my lye mix wasn't that strong. I googled some youtube lye/aluminum reactions and I didn't have any of that happening thank gosh! Lol

I think it will be okay. It wasn't in the solution for very long and got rinsed well. It was not super strong solution either. But not sure I know what it would take to make it strong.
I think the next time I do it I will probably do a soap scrub right away.

There is still a little wvo in the nooks and crannies.
