So I got my temp and oil pressure gauges installed this weekend and I plugged the temp sensor into factory driver side hole next to the exhaust manifold and got everything else hooked up and started the truck and let it come to temp. The factory gauge apparently works off both factory sensors cause my gauge reads as well as the factory temp gauge. No big deal I just didn't expect that. So I'm assuming it reads temp off of the IP temp sensor also? The factory temp wire I popped off is still just hanging there just fyi.

Completely separate. The one near the passenger head is just a temp switch.
Drivers head you have a temp sensor and a over temp switch.

^^^^^ +1; You probably disconnected the switch that turns on the over-temp light.

If what you decommissioned had a two-wire connector, that's the switch that activates the cold idle / cold advance on the IP.

On the drivers side of the engine that large sender in the front of the head is the over temp switch. What it does is grounds out when the temp reaches 242 degrees and pegs the dash gauge. the dash light comes on as a warning too. To test the functionality of this sender just ground the switch to anything. The dash gauge will peg well past the "L" in normal. That tells you it works. Because you installed your new sender in this head position know that you are seeing slightly higher temps than the smaller sender sees thats up next to the injection pump on this same side. Its only about 5 to 7 degrees higher. That flat area under the injection pump is the cross over from the drivers side to the passenger side and then to the thermostat housing. Its known as the blend port. The way you have set up your new gauge is fine. You just will not have the warning dash light called "check engine" come on. Most engines are well spent when this light comes on.

So witch one goes to the IP? I thought it was the sensor to the right of the IP if your facing the motor/fan side.

Sensor location so you don't get confused. You can clearly see the 120*F temp. switch located between the Alt. and hose to the radiator, that switch, when the head reaches 120*F, turns OFF the Cold Idle solenoid also the IP Cold advance solenoid (not shown).
