Is getting worn out
Can i copper coat the block and the head? or would that be a bad idea, what about the headgaskets or have i fell off my rocker?

When I put the head gaskets in my bad engine I copper coated them, and when I took the heads back off a few months later they were STUCK I had to get at them with a prybar.
I wouldn't copper coat the block or the head though, I wouldn't want that crap on my cylinder walls.

Just coat the gaskets.......It does it's job well.
Just make sure you are using real gaskets with a firm surface i.e. Victor reinz or factory gaskets ( one and the same ) if you do that with fel pros you'll just create a big mess. those things have a soft coating on them from the factory that flakes off easily, there is no base material with any resemblance to rigidity to stick to
I might add, if you really want it to seal, use about 3 light coats of spray hylomar on each side instead. That stuff stretches with the engine heat cycles and bounces back into place. Youll find that most of those high tech european diesels come with that stuff on the head gaskets from the factory now ( after years of watching mechanics do it

A light coating will work fine. Just don't make any drips. To say its needed or not is an oppinion. I have never used it and never had a head gasket leak. Others have had leakers but they did have an issue that helped along the leak. You wont make a mistake using or not using it. Make sure the threads are clean in the block all the way down by using a bottoming tap. If your installing arp studs read about torqueing them down 5 times and loosening them 5 times. This breaks in the threads and reduces friction between all the tightening surfaces.

Just the gaskets and VERY lightly. You don't want enough to where it's going to squeeze out you just want enough thereto fill in the imprefections in the metal and create a perfect barrier to complete the gasket, not to try and make a gasket like folks do with silicone. If the thing is that bad, you need to get some surfaces milled
By the way, I have nothing against coper coat it is a superior product , especially for head gaskets. I used it for years before finding Hylomar

What he said^^^^ I've used it for years for pretty much every gasket that I've replaced. Works excellent and alot cleaner than silicone.

This is new to me, I've never seen one engine builder do that around here...Most are wiping the block and head with brake cleaner to remove any oil residue so they get a good clamp/stick....That's what I do too and I've yet to have a comeback.

For me, it's more a security blanket than anything. The purpose of the coppercoat and Hylomar is to help the gasket do it's job better by filling imperfections.
