cooling issues caused by AC?

What are the chances of my cooling issues being caused by the AC condenser not allowing enough air through to the radiator?

Let it cool spray water with garden hose and take a look at the fins on the ac condenser. Is it an automatic? Unless it is really dirty I don't see how much it could affect the cooling system on its own.

Check the fins for dead bodies and such - if you aren't getting air flow through the condensor or rad then your not going to cool properly

How old is the fan clutch? Place some cardboard over the radiator but have a small hole in it right where the spring is located. Run it and listen for the fan to lock up at about 215 deg or so. Don't let it heat up till the "check engine lite" comes on. Thats about 242 deg and way to hot. If your fan clutch is good you will hear it when it locks up.

I have replaced the fan clutch with a low temp one from MS tech. And the test works fine.
Buy, I never hear it kick in in real life. I put in a new radiator when I put in the engine. And it has had a temp issue when pulling since then.
So I was thinking about this and this idea hit me. Is it a possibility? it looks ok, but why does it overheat so bad when pulling?

I have AC in my motorhome and gross 15,000+ all the time. Traveling up and down hills with 12+ pounds of boost and propane on in 100 degree weather in Nevada and Arizona I never see my Isspro temp gauge above 215 degrees. 192 is normal and the fan kicks in at 205-210. That is with the AC on.

If the AC condenser is clean it is not your problem.

DsBlack, what are the specs on your radiator? I also have a heating problem when loaded but I have a 6litre ps intercooler in front also. I just unhooked the wastegate line and have 10 lbs of boost under light load and I noticed the temp climbing a little and its only 55* today. I have heard these turboed trucks like to heat.

The E had cooling issues as soon as I added the turbo. I swapped everything in the system except the engine to no avail until I got the new custom rad built then it was all behind me. I never did figure out what was causing the problem because a new stock rad was installed which did nothing for me other than cost me time to install it.

I do not know what the specs are. I just asked for a radiator for my truck when I bought it at the local shop. But it was only 235 so that is probably the real issue. Just a thought...

I bet it is a three row like the one I tried to use and the truck was on 220 almost the time, the tubes are wider and the water flows too fast to get cooled, I put in the 4 row oem and it helped a bunch. Still waiting for summer to see what it will do. When you coming near portland,? we gotta meet.

I do know this...when I have my AC on my temps go way up, especially if its 90 or above...turn the AC off and they go back down. I haven't turboe's my truck..yet.

With my 5-row radiator, Autozone Fan Clutch(that turns on at 210*), coming to Oklahoma thru the Arizona/New Mexico desert and all the grades, with >3000lbs slide-in camper(loaded to the gills) and 2k trailer, engine temps never went past 212*. OkieGringo

Sometimes even if they look clean , they aren't .
I''ve had folks bring vehicles to me with overheating and por AC performance problems and they tel me that they've hosed them out, but i pop the grill off and spend an hour or so with a pick tool and a flat screwdriver picking all the insect carcases and tiny rocks out and straighten the fins, and no more problem. I've seen the airflow as much as 80% blocked with just little crud, but a whole lot of it.
