Here after finals and I get back home from Purdue Trusty is gonna go under the knife. I plan on new injectors, new ABS sensor, coolant flush (changing block drains during that),and install a coolant filter. I bought the filter kit awhile back and noticed that it wants you to install it as a bypass. I'm guessing this is because the filter doesn't have a built in bypass so when it plugs it would stop all flow of coolant in those lines. So i got to thinking that i could use this to my advantage. If i install this in the return side of my heater core (with no bypass) couldn't I use my heater as a way of telling me when to change the filter? What I'm not sure about is does stopping flow in the heater lines effect anything? Only other thing i thought of is the filter wouldn't flow enough. I know on our semis at work we closed valves in the summertime so no coolant circulates through those lines.
