These filters are a great idea and very easy to install. Yes definitely run it in bypass--I would also recommend welding the fittings where you can and using pipe dope vs. pipe thread for a little more insurance especially if you plan to use CAT ELC. Here is a pic of mine I chose not to use valves for simplicity and I figured I'd make a mess changing it if they were there or not LOL

On my 95 PSD I mounted it on the frame rail next to the ZF5. I will be doing the same thing to my 75 F350 IDI flatbed and my 76 F350 4wd CC 5.9 1st gen.

I think I'm gonna mount mine on the frame rail, I'm trying to remove excess junk from the engine compartment. Plus i like the easy access on a frame rail. Just have to remember to install valves so i don't remove the filter followed by 8 gallons of coolant when I change it. LOL
