I am going to do a rebuild on my 7.3 idi soon and I was wondering if the classic diesel designs head gasket and reseal kit was any good. I also wanted to know what coolant freeze plugs you need to remove in order to use the CDD head gaskets.
It's not the best picture, but it's the only one that I have. You can see the plugs beside the head bolts that are in the block along the lower part of where the heads sit. They are round and stainless. There's also plugs in the heads in matching locations. I believe that the CDD head gaskets are Factory Turbo gaskets with the thickest fire rings that you can find. They come with holes already in the correct locations to allow coolant from the removed plugs to flow through.I also wanted to know what coolant freeze plugs you need to remove in order to use the CDD head gaskets.

The description also says that it has the thickest fire ring on the market which is a Factory Turbo head gasket. Yes it's a Fel-Pro. Yes you can make your own holes. Yes you can even buy Turbo head gaskets to put holes into. This is for the people who don't want to do all of that. These days, most, not all, people want fast and easy even if it costs more. From being in the three wheeler world, I see A LOT of people who want to buy a new Chinese cylinder and piston to put on their engines quickly and cheaply. My way, the old school way, is to buy the next oversized piston and have the cylinder bored to fit it. These head gaskets are for people like that. The ones who want quick and easy.it is literally just a Felpro 7.3 head gasket drilled to have the coolant holes like a 6.9 head gasket

By the way, I've purchased CDD's head gasket before, it is literally just a Felpro 7.3 head gasket drilled to have the coolant holes like a 6.9 head gasket
7.3 cooling mod
I have no pictures because I did this to mine a couple of months ago. This is also only my experience and I've only done this once. Explanation: this mod doesn't actually increase the cooling of a 7.3 engine. This is a preventative procedure. With the 6.9 block and heads, as you're looking at...www.oilburners.net
Absolutely. If you want easy, it won't be cheap. If you want cheap, it won't be easy. Prior female experiences when I was younger aside, that is.And up charged to represent the...
But you have to pay the lazy surcharge...
Carry-on
I was only thinking about things that are worthwhile above.Looks like good gaskets and seals. Looks to be a pretty complete gasket set.I am going to do a rebuild on my 7.3 idi soon and I was wondering if the classic diesel designs head gasket and reseal kit was any good. Its VHT brand color is burnt copper.Does anyone know why IH decided to block off those water jackets on 7.3?
Also @ THSIM9, I like your cat yellow paint job! Do you have more pics? Was considering IH industrial yellow for my engine build???
I always figured it was for cylinder wear. Cylinders at the corners of the engine always seem to wear more, because they are cooler. that is what I have always been told...?Does anyone know why IH decided to block off those water jackets on 7.3?
