To remove the solenoid plug. Squeeze the tab and lift at the same time. It might be a little stubborn but it will release. Do not use a screwdriver or other prying instruments on this plug. It will break and cause lots of grief down the road.

i did this. and guess what i even went to extreme and took off the exhaust pipe that was in the way. i cannot get it off. i was wondering what the box is that the wire runs into further up? i tried geting into it but it is a little beat up. melted from exhaust a bit so i taped it up. and strapped it to the frame rail. but that dam plug. i cannot get off. i did push the button and pull up. but cant get it off. reefed and reefed on it.

Amen Trackspeeder! I have seen alot of broken plugs because of impatient people - it's no fun when you hit a bump on the road and the O/D light flashes you in limp mode.

Rob, just step away for a bit and try it again, just remember to re-install with dielectric grease

If that goes to a computer DO NOT use dielectric grease on the thing! there or any other plug with a computer signal on a vehicle! I cannot stress this enough. I just got through replacing the main computer, transmission computer and two internal transmission solenoids on one of my Volvos with only 112k miles due to some well meaning mechanic putting dielectric grease on the plugs, and I can't count the number of customer cars I've had to do that on and everytime I've had to chase cascading electronic failures, there has ALWAYS been dielectric grease on the plugs. On the same vehicles that come straight from dealer service where they don't do that ,they will go 3-400k miles without ever suffering those type failures

Dielectric grease is for high voltage circuits , i.e. spark plug and coil boots to prevent leakage, NEVER on low voltage computer circuits where it places increased resistance on the circuit and can end up burning out devices in the circuit. The stuff is bad enough when new and then it dries up over time and increases resistance to the point where the low voltages on those circuits can no longer flow at all, but electricity being what it is, will continue to try and it finds itself going to other places and you wind up melting down all kinds of things. Just stay away from it. Use a good electronic cleaner and if yo like, use a spray that leaves a conductive lubricant residue on the pins to prevent oxidation

Well RLDSL, I stand corrected - I've done it for a few years with no bad effects so I assumed there wasn't an issue.

Thanks for the info

try to spray some wd40 on it and let soak in for a while

did the wd40. also blew it down with compressed air lightly. tried to get some muck off.

let it soak for about 1 hour. no luck yet. i just put everything together. i cant seem to follow the wire though. im surprised noone knows where there is another part of wire i can tap into.

so everyone. an update. i got the switch wired in. i traced the wire up along the frame and tapped it in there. only problem is. it is not working. i have the ground wire hooked up to the ground that the computer is on. (bolted to the body) and no go. should i maybe run more wire up the the (-) on the battery?

Does this plug location at the trans have a heat shield protecting it from the hot exhaust pipe. If not the the plug has melted from the hot exhaust pipe.
