Better to go with a flatdeck. Build it with some extra aft overhang, and/or a removable extension to get a full 8' when you need it.
This or extend the frame. I believe that the Extended cab is more than 8 inches longer than the Regular cab.

Moving the wheelwells on a pickup bed seems like a lot of work for something that ends up looking awkward. Better to go with a flatdeck. Build it with some extra aft overhang, and/or a removable extension to get a full 8' when you need it.

@Selahdoor hypothetically, if I was going to try this I would just move the bed back the required amount and then redrill the frame for the axle hangers to put the axle where it needs to be to match the wheel wells, then add a couple inches of channel to the end of the frame. No, it probably wouldn't be the easiest way, but it saves on body work. Much better off finding an extended cab donor truck!

To answer your other question, the cab length vs bed length

The way Ford does it now, to keep the truck's overall length the same Ford, and the other OEM's They do it this way

Regular Cab, 8 foot bed

Extended Cab, 6.5 foot bed

SuperCrew, 5.5 foot bed.

The trucks are the same overall length, but you loose bed space. If you want an 8 foot bed on anything longer than a Regular Cab, you have to step up into the SuperDuty's.

To add to the confusion...some manufacturers (GM) have a double cab which is basically an extended cab with forward facing rear doors while retaining the 6.5' bed. I am really not sure if Ford offers this in the 150 line up.

1995 was when GM and shortly after Ford rolled out the “third door” on their trucks

I don’t think Ford does. I’ve seen what you are talking about from GM. Does GM make a SuperCrew equivalent? One that is actually 4 full size doors? I know the GM (Chevy) I saw, I wouldn’t be very comfy back there.

I thought it was 96. Always made me mad because my 97 doesn't have that. Must have been optional, that 97 of mine is a pretty barebones model....

Ford was with the 97 F-150 with the new body style. Ford didn’t offer the 3rd door Extended Cab in the pre-97 150’s or pre 99 2/350’s. Didn’t off a crew cab on anything but a 350 in that era too.....

I think the only thing Ford ever offered with “4 doors” that wasn’t a crew cab was the extend cab with 1 or 2 “suicide doors” in the extended cab, that could only be opened with the main front door open. If a Ford had 4 independent doors, with a door handle on the outside, they were a full crew cab.... I think only GM and Dodge offered a “double cab” which is like pa described, an extended cab with 2 bib doors and 2 little doors.......

Pretty sure they do Scott. IIRC the bed is 5.5". Erica's Sierra is a double cab. Works good for her. The kids (6' 5" and 5' 9") are not too happy being back there though! Seats are up 90% of the time for lugging crap around, not people. Heck my son drives himself to job site versus sitting back there.
