c6 rebuild advice?

So I will need to rebuild my c6. I have no 2nd gear and suspect a broken band and damaged drum. I have checked for the easy fixes so on to the full scale rebuild. Truck is 2wd and will not pull any weight so I am looking for fuel mileage. I paid very little for the truck and don't want to spend alot, less than 1000$. Any advice on upgrades?

Check around the local tranny shops. You should be able to get it rebuilt for $1000 or less. At least you could in my area several years ago.

Try adjusting the band, there is a bolt on the drivers side. Back the nut off, then tighten the bolt to 10 ft lbs, then back it off exactly 1-1/2 turns. They say you shotite.uld replace the nut, but I never did, always used a drop of Blue loctite. Might help if the band ear is not broken off. A C6 is easy to rebuild.

I will try to adjust the band again. I tried once, the nut was rusted to the bolt, it got dark out and I ran out of time. I had to it to work in Chicago. If the material on the band is wore off and I adjust it will it damage anything other than the drum and in doing so will it make the tranny undriveable?

I've had 2 rebuilt with new clutches, new band, bigger servo, better planetary gears, and manual shift kits and rebuilt stall converters. With converter I was at $720. Other ones was around that price too but it was a few years ago.

What is the manual shift kit?

Installed a floor shifter and it would only shift when I told it to. The first one held up to a 400 horse small block for a couple years. When I went big block I went back to a 4 speed.

You probably don't want a manual valve body.
