Bracket and pulley painting

Got some parts from the sandblasters today.

Two Ex manifolds
Fuel Filter mounting plate
Serpentine pulleys
Two cast AL brackets for Serpentine belt system

Exhaust manifolds will be painted another day...need some primer!

So I cleared coated the two aluminum brackets to preserve the cast look...I like that appearance myself

Then semi gloss black for the remaining parts...

Blasted bracket PS/Vacuum/AC

All the parts painted black

So now I've got to let these cure at least 24 hrs more than likely more...maybe till Monday then I can cure them in the oven for a while too say at 175-250 degrees...that bakes the finish on but good. Thus painting on Friday means gotta wait till wife goes to work to cure em in the oven...

I was reading the paint can for the VHT EXTREME hi heat and it says to cure with a 3 bake procedure. Similar to mine that I've already used. Though they say increase the temp each time up to 600 degrees, which I don't have an oven that will do that.

Will post pics once cured. I cannot wait to get these on and my serpentine setup done!

Looks nice Al. That serpentine tensioner mount is differant from both of my brackets. Did you actually take that off an idi engine. If not that might be from a psd engine. Hope not. another note is check the runout on the vacuum pump pulley before its mounted to the engine. Towcat told me sometimes they get out of round and cause all kinds of belt issues like throwing belts. This reason makes me carry a spare new vacuum pump pulley and the press to install or remove them. Looks really nice. I too like the naturel look to the aluminum.

Thanks Gary for the tip on vacuum pump pulley run out. I'll make sure to check that real well when I'm assembling things up.

No the bracket is from Darren a few years ago, so if it's wrong I'll have to contend with that...I did however check the fit on another IDI block I have and it all seems good. Part #'s are right too.

I've got more parts to go to sandblaster yet. I'm really wanting to do the intake in O Natural too so that may find it's way to blasters.

I'll do most of my brackets and mounts in the Satin Black I tend to as mentioned like natural aluminum but I may do the entire oil cooler in some obscure header colour for shitzngigglz not sure yet...

The engine will be Grey like stock valve covers may get a dose of WRINKLE black not sure...that's hard to keep clean that *****! but eh, once you seal it right it's not too bad.

Going with either cast iron grey or black for exhaust manifolds too.

On another note.

Anyone know how to make bolts black oxide finish like factory? I'd like to use something to mimic the factory black oxide coating.

that's a first gen bracket. it uses the tensioner with the exposed spring.

that's strictly your own interpretation. only you can decide if it is good/bad/ugly. Gary asked for an explanation on why it looks unusual. I provided an answer. Will it get the job done? No more and no less than gen 2 bracket with gen 2 and gen 3 tensioners.

Makes me wonder WHY they changed...

I'll keep my eyes open for newer bracket....

regardless. It is what I have and it's what I can get this running with...in sunlight that bracket looks good!

Al what I like about the tensioners with the shock absorber on them is they dampen the action of the spring and the runout sometimes found in the pulleys. Look at it this way. shock absorbers on a car or truck are there for the same reason the absorber is on the newer tensioners. Things last longer . Now the spring tensioners are cheaper to buy to than the shock absorbers are. So its what you have and it works. One serpentine belt is also cheaper than 4 V belts. Plus is so much easier to install or remove.

Hmm...maybe have to HI HEAT paint flat black and bake some more!

if you need a new vacuum pump pulley get a Dorman P/n 300-700. Perfect fit and costs about $20.

Damn tempting...very very tempting...shipping and cost is problem for me right now.

MORE sandblasting and painting.... Me like paint and sandblast and bake paint..

Superwifey absolutely hates when I bake paint in house. I keep telling her get me a stove for shop then still don't have one!
