I have crimped dozens using my simple FREE system and they look pretty darn professional.

I clamp a short piece of angle-iron in a drill-press vise(not mounted) in such a way that the angle-iron makes a V-shaped trough.

I clean the copper cable as good as I can and coat the end with electrical wire anti-corrosion ****.

I put the lug on the cable and place it in the V of the angle-iron.

I then make two large dimples, lengthwise of the cable, with a fat pointed punch, about a 90* point, not a real sharp point.

I whack the punch pretty good, several times.

I have performed this operation under the hood, with the other end of the cable still attached; just be careful where you set the "anvil" and don't be beating on something that will break.

I then finish off with some Harbor Freight heat-shrink and one of those $15 Harbor Freight heat guns that I got on sale for ten bucks.

If you want weather-proof heat-shrink, and are on a budget, squirt some RTV, or whatever you have, inside the heat-shrink, before shrinking it.
