For years how I have been explaining the operation on the Banks wastegate ... WRONG. I examined my turbo many years ago and now after thinking thru a few posts on this forum I felt I needed to rexamine mine. Sure nuff I was wrong. I believed the Banks gates operated off the can getting pressure from the boost side and that is correct. But the gate is opened into the outlet side of the exhaust. What I always believed is the exhaust pressure side of the hot wheel kept the gate closed. It does not. The spring pressure in the can keeps the gate closed. Then as pressure increases on the spring from more boost build up. the can pressure begins to crack open the gate allowing exhaust pressure to go around the hot wheel limiting the boost pressure.
I do not know why I felt the high exhaust pressure was keeping the gate closed all this time. Sorry guys.:dunnocookoo:angel:
