Banks Trans Temp Gauge... again

Was wondering... those of you with a Banks trans temp gauge and a supplemental transmission filter... how is your gauge connected?

I have one wire coming from the sending unit on my trans filter head into the gauge pod. No other wires on the trans filter head itself. There oughta be ground somehow... I dunno...

I'm going on break from school in 10 days... hope to fix this problem then.

Mike,

It grounds through the filter head it's self. The threads on the probe are the ground connection. If you used too much teflon tape it can insulate the threads to the point where you won't get a good connection and the gauge will either act funky or not at all.

I'm assuming the ground is through the threads on the probe to the head unit to the frame of the truck.

Could be anything in that loop not letting current flow, right?


Grrr..... This is gonna be a "project..." I'm not sure how much Teflon tape the trans shop used for the install and am a little concerned about removing the sending unit. Thank goodness I have a block off part to keep the fluid from draining...

Correct.

Actually you won't loose much fluid at all because the system is not pumping fluid when it's off (vehicle) and the filter is typically not the lowest point in the system (pan is) when it's bolted to the frame. My bet it's the tape or too much there of... Shouldn't take ya more than 5 mins to spin it out and peal a little off.
