So having seen a few other similar threads here and not wanting to clutter up their threads and confuse anyone...
I have a used 088 kit on the shelf, and I have a factory kit on Diego. I'll explain details but the gist of the question is...
What is my best option going forward for Tank?
Tank will stay 5spd. I plan on studding the heads and most likely putting Russ' cam in. It's primarily a tow rig but I'll daily it on occasion. I do NOT have immediate plans for an intercooler and I'm hoping to run a 110cc pump as that seems to be the happy medium with a NA block whereas it seems the 130 starts pushing towards unreliable, and is just begging for trouble without an intercooler.
Originally I spoke with Russ and he said the 088 might be best with the largest wheel he sells, but I also asked him compared to a stock factory turbo which kinda locks that for comparison. So let me make it more broad.
STOCK factory turbo vs 088?
Fully upgraded factory vs 088?
I'm concerned with the leak prone slip joints on the 088 setup, and I could always order a modified up pipe from @IDIoit to solve that on the factory kit.
I guess I know which way I'm leaning but I wanted some input from the group, especially @typ4 and @Thewespaul given how many of these they've both worked on.
I'm NOT planning on getting a newer turbo, unless it's really cost effective compared to upgrading the existing ones, another plus for the stock turbo being upgrades should just bolt on IF I ever decide to.
Current finances dictate that whichever turbo I use will be installed as is and run with the stock IP turned up for at least a couple years.
Fwiw whichever kit I don't use on Tank will go on Diego to keep his dignity as being turbo'd lol
