anyone using a lift gate?

someone around here has a lift gate for sale that i need for my truck so i was going to buy it, but then i realized that the receiver part of my Shelton hitch was installed so that the end of it is flush with the bumper, and there is a weld along that last section holding it to the metal support for the bumper. My impression is that you have to remove the bumper to use a lift gate - and that means i would have to remove the hitch because it would stop the gate from lowering. Is this correct? If so i can't use the lift gate.
does anyone have pictures of their lift gate set up? I would like to figure out some way to make this work but i can't picture just how to do it yet.
