Anyone have a guide to pull a 7.3 idi?

You guys are talking about dumping the oil out of the lifters?

Never had any trouble with them bleed down on there own. Just tighten the rocker down a bit at a time and let it sit a few minutes between tightenings, and then some time before starting.

When I had my heads off they wouldn't bleed back down for some reason, when barring the engine over I was getting piston to valve contact until I did this.

I have had that happen with other stuff, sucks to deal with, but never on these.

The weakness of these engines is the valve guides. You are best off taking the heads off, inspecting them for cracks between the valves if none are present then get a head job with new valve guides and put it back together.

I'm gona try to tighten up the head bolts before I start pulling anything.

Gona retorque the head bolts today. Should i back them all out a half turn before doing so? Anything else to look out for here? Heres a pic with the cover off.

Yeah, back them out quarter to half turn.

I can't say how far. I think that it's just enough to break them loose, but I may be wrong on that.

Having the hose long like that can put pressure on the orings, causing them to leak.

Update-

I retorqued the head bolts and the leak is still there. When I cracked the head open coolant leaked out. I've heard a lot of people say that pulling just the head is a pain but I don't currently have the space to pull the whole engine. How bad is it pull just the head and fix the gasket that way?
