Anyone driving a truck with an IDI on long trips?

Wanted to see if anyone is using an older vehicle with a IDI for any extensive travel?
If so what spare parts do you generally keep packed “just in case”?

I exclusively use my idi as my toy hauler. I go camping at least once a month. All I keep is a small hammer, a quarter inch ratchet set from 5mm to 14 (standard equivalent) and some spare fuel return caps and fuel lines. Bag of zip ties and side cutters. Literally never need anything else.

I always keep a spare set of belts, return line components, plastic & metal zip ties, fuel filter, 5/8" heater hose connector, and a 3/8" ratchet set. So far I haven't needed any of it.

To actually address your question...
I do carry a full set of repair tools less specialized stuff, a serp belt vac pump for ac. Fuses ect. But if I was in an old high mile rig I would carry items that I would be able to replace in the feild rather than call a wrecker...

I carry a bit more in the rockcrawler but don't drive like an idiot so I can drive it home..

I have a serpentine belt, return lines, caps and a spare lift pump plus tools. I've done three 450 mile trips with up to a 10,000 lbs gooseneck load and haven't needed anything so far.

these are interesting threads because different trucks have different weaknesses and need different extras

I mostly travel hwy 5 and have done seattle area to San Diego a few times with other trips to central Cali.
For a long enough trip oil change supplies and try to keep tire change items on hand, like bottle jack and breaker bar. Otherwise just maybe a small socket set and spare fuses.

Really want to spend more time in Utah and Colorado but the 4.10 gears get painful on the freeway…

These are more day to day but I also try to keep consumables on hand like gloves, paper towels, funnel, oil, fuel additive, basic strap wrench etc

When truck was still an auto, had a starter behind the seat.
Before I converted to 3g alt, carried a spare alt and regulator behind the seat. Never actually swapped one on the road, but but could have twice. Both times was within an hour or 2 of home and made it.
Belts.....
Vacuum pump....was another problamatic one for me.
Really didnt have that much trouble all the years of driving these trucks, but always checked over pretty well between trips.

If I had a serpentine belt setup, I would figure out some way to bypass or run a shorter belt in case the A/C pulley goes bad. I have seen that stop one of these trucks in it's tracks. The serpentine belt is superior to v-belts, but you have options when things go wrong with the v-belt setup. Even though you may not use the A/C, it has a bearing inside the pulley that turns all the time. I see some of you carry a spare vacuum pump and alternator, I guess that would take care of those. You still have the power steering pump and the waterpump, but they usually give signs before they crap out altogether.

Non ac trucks use a different belt and possibly " don't quote me on it " a different tensioner routing iirc....
So one should be able to carry the backup belt and reroute it...
