another first on this dually. who else has seen a trans insulating panel? my only guess as to what it could be. it is fiberglass and went under the trans. would be a major PITA to remove trans with that having to be removed also.

I have one that I took off my 92 F450 1 ton.. it's still laying on the bench if anyone wants it.... I've found the truck can survive without it.... hahaha..

A real pain in the ass to do trans service with one in place,, but you know... it must serve SOME purpose, otherwise why would Ferd have installed it???????

What was it? My guess is that it was used to keep the heat off of some rear AC lines.

Looks like somebody had a half off sale...:rotflmao:sly:angel: I too have never seen something like that either and I have been under plenty of these rigs. Was this off a super duty truck. If it was is the front wheels the 10 lugs... Not many of those in the yards to look at.. Maybe towcat will chime in with why these are out there.
Just still fasinates me what we can still learn when we think its all learned up...:D

Can't imagine how it would be under the trans for noise. If it was over the top to quiet down the cab, maybe.... Ohhhh well... it runs faster without it.. [I'm sure]..haha

My 92 F450 is a 10 lug wheel truck.. btw... if that makes any difference... Looks like your F250/350 is 8 lug.. same fiberglass shield...from the pic.

Going once,,, going twice.. one "mystery shield"... lol

I was thinking noise out side of the truck. One that I used to work on regularly has a single mass flyweel, and you can hear the trans if you crawl under the truck, but is pretty quite standing next to it.

God I hated those when I worked in the transmission shop. Never knew what they were for but I've fought several of them doing filter changes
