Another of my dumb questions

I went to adjust my FIPL this evening and noticed the piece that attaches to the IP is missing. Is the piece that goes from the FIPL to the IP part of the IP or the FIPL? If it's part of the FIPL, no problem. If it's part of the IP, I'm in trouble. The diesel shop I got my IP from sent my core off this morning to be remanufactured.

Its not part of either the switch or the pump. Sorry. Try looking on Ebay. Maybe someone will sell you that part off a truck they are parting out or someone may be selling a core injection pump. Other than that maybe an injection pump rebuild shop might have one laying around.

Try PM-ing metrojd, he is parting out a truck that has an E4OD, and even if he is keeping the pump he has a ZF-5 in his own truck so he won't need that piece. He has an ad in the marketplace parting out an F350.

there is a psrt that attaches off the IP shaft to the FIPL. you will need a allen wrench to pull it. In short, you're screwed. Metrojd is your best bet at the moment.

You can probably get one from Ford. It can't be too expensive. Maybe Stanadyne dealers carry them also.

As towcat said, it is a part, similiar to a cap with a square blade sticking out of the closed end section, that is attached to the IP shaft with an allen screw. Ken at DPS may have one also.

Good Luck! May be like finding the hydroboost output shaft I have been looking for. Can't get it without buying the whole booster core.

I contacted Texas Diesel Service (where I got the pump) and talked to one of the mechanics. Luckily, he had pulled the actuator off my old pump and was holding it for me. He knew I'd be looking for it. I guess that's what I get for not paying attention when I replaced my pump. Oh well, I never claimed to be the shiniest nickel in the fountain.

Got everything back together and Big Red is happier than ever. the old truck fires right up and the power has greatly increased. I hope my mileage goes back up, too.

Thanks again for all the support and guidance from everyone. I certainly couldn't have done without Mel's step by step instructions, that's for sure.

Your experience reminds me of a hard lesson that I learned, several years ago.

Back when I wasn't hardly as intelligent as I am now , I came limping in home with a water-pump pouring a leak(on an old gas-burner truck).

I had to leave again, in the night, and the only parts store that is open late--way over in the next county--was fixing to close.

I removed the old pump in record time and layed it on the parts counter.

The young chick took my old pump, some money, handed me a rebuilt pump, and locked the door behind me.

When I started installing the new pump, I was missing two vital parts.

Guess where they were.

OK. I'll bite. What? I've not seen a water pump that wasn't all one big part. The gasket maybe? A tube of silicone?

Oh, but many do such as the heater hose fitting, the plugs on top, things of that nature. Some use studs to hold the pulley/fan on and many people used to bring water pumps in without removing those. We would just pull them and put their name on them if we knew them, as they were sure to return!

Ah. Yea, I'll buy that. We do have some fittings now that I think about it.
