Another E4OD thread...

The truck knows Christmas eve is tomorrow and I didnt but anything for her this year....

....on the drive home from picking Vicki up at work, the truck was doing something I have never seen an automatic transmission do before. I was in city traffic on surface streets. The transmission ididn't shift hard, but I was doing 40 kilometers an hour in overdrive?

It would bang off all 4 speeds and lock the converter up in OD. At one point I was turning 800 RPM and she would not downshift unless I pushed the pedal down so the FIPL kicked the passing gear in.

OD light is not blinking, it is not making any weird noises and nothing smells like it is overheating or burning.

When I came up my driveway which is STEEP...BigRigTech can attest to teh steepness, the tranny banged off a couple of gears at the top of the hill....I was only going 10 kilometers an hour this time...

What should I get my truck for Christmas? An E4OD computer?

fastest was 30 miles an hour...it should have NEVER got into overdrive at those speeds...the RPM was almost lugging at an idle....it was weird.

The tps is supposedly replaced every 50,000 miles because they wear out the coil. When was yours replaced... Sounds like its worn out. Use a digital voltmeter and set it for 1.2 volts. Don't set it lower than .96 volts. The lower the volts.. The softer and slower the shifts...

I would check the setting on the FIPL (TPS) as for replacing it it might be bad but I would check it before replacing it. I would look at the voltage across the entire range and if the voltage sweeps pretty steady then I would say it good.

As a side note the same FIPL that the Enterprise was shipped with from the factory was still on her when she went to die in FT's front lawn. I never had to replace it - had to adjust it a few times but didn't have to replace it.
